South Korea with kids
An underrated family destination: theme parks the size of Japan's at lower prices, a subway that goes everywhere, and an island with beaches and volcanoes at the end of a short domestic hop.

Lotte World and Everland between them cover two full days, with palaces, a river park and one of the best children's museums in Asia for the rest.
Lotte World Everland Hanbok at the palace
Winter is properly cold and the wind makes it worse. December to February needs real coats, not Singapore ones.

A volcanic island of black-sand beaches, lava tubes and a great many small, slightly odd museums. Hire a car; the buses will not do.

Nothing works here without a car, and the island is bigger than it looks on a map.

Korea's beach city: a sky capsule that runs along the shoreline, a painted hillside village, a working fish market, and Gyeongju's tombs and temples an hour away.
Sky Capsule Gamcheon village Haeundae beach
The Sky Capsule sells out days ahead in summer and at weekends, and only a set number of cabins run — book it before you fix the rest of the day around it.
