The Little Hours

Denmark with kids

The oldest theme park in the world in the middle of the capital, the original LEGOLAND three hours west, and a country organised entirely around bicycles.

Where to base yourself

Pick one, or pick two and split the days between them. Each card says roughly how long it is worth and how many things there are to do.

Tivoli Gardens in the middle of the city, a good zoo, canal boats through the old harbour, and the original LEGOLAND at Billund.

Tivoli's entry and rides are priced separately — buy the ride wristband. LEGOLAND is three hours west and deserves an overnight rather than a day trip.

Add Copenhagen

When to go. May to September, and Tivoli's Christmas season in November and December. Winter days are short — dark by four in December.

Choose where you are staying, then pick from what is reachable from there and the app builds a day-by-day plan around it.

Denmark — good to know

Detail
EntryNo visa for Singapore passport holders for short stays. ETIAS is coming.
TimeSix or seven hours behind Singapore depending on the season.
MoneyDanish krone, not the euro. Denmark is close to cashless and many places take no cash at all.
CostExpensive — closer to Switzerland than to Germany. Supermarket lunches and a self-catering flat are how families manage it.
BicyclesCopenhagen is built around cycle lanes and they are fast, busy and have right of way. Look both ways before crossing one, as in Amsterdam.
Getting aroundCopenhagen's metro runs all night and is driverless — sit at the front, children love it. Billund is three hours west by train and bus.
TivoliEntry and rides are separate tickets. The multi-ride wristband is what you want with children, and the park closes between seasons.
WaterTap water is excellent.
